As part of our who’s who series, service director for adult social care at Gateshead Council, Stephanie Downey, steps up to the mic and shares her views on the importance of joining up health and care, her role within the workforce and digital workstreams, and why she is positive about the future. Steph represents the adult social care perspective on the Workforce Transformation and Strategy Board and the Programme Leadership Group on behalf of the North East Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (NE ADASS). She is a social worker by background and worked in Sunderland and North Tyneside local authorities before moving to Gateshead in 2016. Since May 2019 Steph has chaired the North East Social Work Alliance, which is a partnership between the 12 north east local authorities and the six higher education institutions providing social work training in the north east. Catherine Withington is our workforce transformation programme manager and is responsible for programme management and reporting as part our assurances to the Workforce Transformation and Strategy Board. Catherine is an experienced manager with extensive experience working within public and private sectors. She is currently working with partner organisations and key stakeholders to streamline our programme management reporting to reduce duplication. Catherine’s recent experience has been in Cumbria on their ICP and previously in Dumfries and Galloway on introducing health and social care integration and the formation of integrated joint boards.
